Two point five
Sunday, March 30th, 2008I came home from a birthday brunch yesterday to discover that, at long last, WordPress 2.5 has been released. I was both excited and terrified. WP 2.5 has been in the works for more than six months, and lately we WPers have been getting tidbits and teasers of its wonderfulness almost daily. Many users downloaded the two “release candidates” to give it a test run, but I was chicken. My history with WordPress upgrades has been rocky, to put it mildly. So I’ve been waiting for the final, tested and approved product.
This time, I had a system. This time, I knew what NOT to do. This time, I had a trick up my sleeve that, swear to God, I dreamed one night. I also took the time to prepare for the upgrade by doing a full backup and putting Pseudotherapy into Maintenance Mode (genius, that plug-in).
The upgrade went as smoothly as a wet dream on satin sheets. Nothing broke. Nothing disappeared. Neither blood nor tears were shed, although there was a brief moment of cold sweat when I hit the View Site button. But all was as it should be, and there was much rejoicing in Casita Duka. Altogether, from backup to View Site, the process took less than an hour. And I am now enjoying the sweet rockrageousness that is WordPress 2.5.
By the way, the little trick that I dreamed? I edited the php files to put in all my customizations BEFORE I uploaded them to my server. That’s actually what took the better part of the hour, but saved me big time in the long run. I recommend it.
