I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! And my Canadian/British friends, I hope you all took Thursday off in support of us colonials!
We hit Wal-Mart at 8 a.m. this morning in pursuit of the 100% cotton 400-thread count king-size sheets sets for $29 (less than half-price!!!). Actually, we had a list of items to get, provided any of them were still in stock. They ALL were. And the store wasn’t even crowded! It was a bit congested back in the movies-and-music section, but otherwise, I’ve seen it much worse. Second on the list was a service for four of Corelle for $17, half what we paid for the first set we bought! Next up was the $3 and $5 movies, most of which were of no interest ? but finding Curse of the Golden Flower for $5 made the whole trip worthwhile. We also picked up the special poker edition of Casino Royale for $10 and Bret got his long-awaited Crysis, which he’s been playing nonstop all afternoon. And I finally got a new Crock-Pot, so we can have dinner waiting when we get home from work. This one’s much nicer than the one I left in Georgia ? pretty funny, since it cost so much less! All in all, quite a rewarding trip. I do wish I’d had the funds to get two of the sheets sets, but we probably should BUY A BED FIRST. Ahem.
By the way, WE DID IT! Bret and I actually managed to achieve a 75% Organic Thanksgiving! We did most of our shopping at Sprouts, so it was much easier than we’d expected. The turkey, cranberry stuffing, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy and cranberry sauce were all 100% organic. Except for the french-fried onions, everything in the green bean casserole was organic. The pumpkin pie, crudit?s, pickles and olives were all-natural (but not certified organic). Surprisingly, we were unable to find organic cornbread mix ? or even plain corn meal, so the cornbread dressing was good old Mrs. Cubbison’s (made with organic vegetables, stock and butter). Falling into the “not even close to organic or all-natural” category: the afore-mentioned french-fried onions, ranch dip, brown-and-serve rolls (we forgot all about rolls until T-Day!) and my hubby’s beloved ReddiWip. Pretty damn good for first-timers! Was it the best Thanksgiving Dinner we’ve ever had? No, but we learned what not to do next time. And it certainly wasn’t bad, either.
