Ten things I’ve learned from bloggers
1. There is always someone who’s worse off than you ? and who’s writing about it with more talent.
2. Bloggers generally hate where they live, and wish they lived in Canada/California/England.
3. Twitter is the new foreplay.
4. Nothing is ever truly secret if the internet is involved.
5. A blogger’s reluctance to attend meet-ups is usually in direct proportion to how unlike their blog persona they are in real life.
6. You can love someone dearly without ever having met them in person.
7. The three best ways to generate traffic to your blog are:
????a. Post an outrageously controversial “political” statement.
??? b. Sponsor a charitable fundraiser.
??? c. Post nude photos of yourself.
8. The blogosphere has a much higher percentage of attractive, intelligent people than the real world.
9.?Some people?apparently take great pride in being arrogant assholes.
10. No matter what you write, someone somewhere will think it’s?about them.

But it ALWAYS IS about me!

Damn Dave stole my comment.
What if you live in Canada? (ha.)
I would also like to add: d. Throw a contest.
April 29th, 2008 at 8:56 am
That was a totally unfunny comment. I apologize.

Well, I’ve already done the naked picture thing, so how about this?
Barack Obama is a sexist racist pig!

Oh, lordy do I agree with #9.
But also with #6. Big, big hugs, my FBMamma…
April 29th, 2008 at 10:52 am
And I’ve also learned, that most bloggers care about comments even if they claim they don’t. I agree with all of your ten!
And also with Dave. I mean, most things are about him. ;)

I love the synchronicity of numbers 9 and 10
I have another one to add…bloggers love to talk about how fat they are in the “make fun of myself before someone else does it for me” fashion. I’m not excluding myself, by the way!

In my very short time as a blogger I have to say “Here here!” to all of the above!
April 29th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Great list. I’m still wishing Canada would move to Mexico. I’d be all over that. :)
April 29th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Dave2: No, only #9 is about you!
Nat: I thought it was hilarious, and also true.
Karl: That’s perfect! It should bring massive traffic to MY blog.
Suze: You knew that one was about my FBdaughters, huh?
Sizzle: I totally agree. If they aren’t interested in feedback, why isn’t their blog private?
Hilly: Hey, was that directed at ME?!?! LOL
Penelope: Let’s raise a glass in agreement!!!
ajooja: I’m not for that because 1. Then Canada would be hot desert instead of cool and green, and 2. Where would Mexico go? I loves me my Mexico!!!
April 29th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Ha, number 8 made me lol. Great list!
April 29th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Is this about me? (ha - kidding!)
I have yet to Twitter - I’m not even sure what it is or how it works, and really I don’t need another addiction. I’m totally with you on the rest! Especially #2 - I totally wish I lived in England. Do they have earthquakes in England? I’m tired of earthquakes.
April 29th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Want to know a secret - twitter and radioblog drives me nuts… for now. Don’t hate me!
I haven’t experience #5 but am intrigued…
April 29th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Catherine: Thanks! I love making lists.
Lisa: They do have earthquakes in England, very occasionally. I admit to being more of a lurker on Twitter - mostly because I rarely see a response to anything I tweet! I am definitely not addicted.
Kim: I listened to an entire BlogTalkRadio show this past weekend, but it was tough for me. I get very antsy. I guess that means I’m not a good listener. :(

Now you know why I hate blogging meetups. Great list.
April 30th, 2008 at 5:35 am
Neil: Thanks! I didn’t even know you DO hate meet-ups.
April 30th, 2008 at 6:01 am
I’m actually a prim and proper conservative gentleman with Victorian sensibilities, so that makes meet-ups quite awkward.

Avitable: I have heard that about you. Good thing your Victorian manners require that you hide your discomfort behind a facade of graciousness, huh?
April 30th, 2008 at 6:35 am
YAY!!! COMMENTLUV IS WORKING RIGHT AGAIN!
April 30th, 2008 at 7:26 am
I do try to exhibit proper decorum, that is true.

Nothing is secret? So you all know about my bedwetting issues?
Mr. Fabulous’s last blog post: Sometimes *I* am the problem!
May 1st, 2008 at 5:14 am
Fab: Well, yeah! After that post about your nocturnal emissions, who doesn’t?
Wait, that wasn’t about bedwetting? :?

You are wise Madam. : )
# 5 is interesting. I’ve been thinking about this. I think one of the unwritten (and sometimes written) rules of blogging is that we should all not take anyone too seriously, vis a vis our blogs. As for me, my blog reveals “shades” of who I really am. I’m always there, to varying degrees, in every post. But (as I’ve stated in my writing several times), I OFTEN exaggerate for effect and to entertain (or at least attempt to). I think if ALL of us were to meet, we would all find shades of the familiar, and other shades that we could never know without actually having human contact with the person.

John: I think that is absolutely true. Even though I’m pretty much “myself” here on Pseudotherapy (for better or worse!) many bloggers choose to assume an alter ego for their blog personality. No one should assume they *know* someone just from reading their blog, or expect them to be that exact person when they finally meet.
But I’ve found bloggers to be extremely warm and accepting in most cases, so no one should be afraid to come out as their natural self, either! Because, in a nutshell, NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE. They care who you are inside.
