10 Reasons Why My Friends Suck

  1. Nobody told me that 12 Monkeys was a sci-fi film.
  2. Nobody told me that 12 Monkeys has a post-apocalyptic setting.
  3. Nobody told me that a key plot element in 12 Monkeys is the spread of a deadly virus.
  4. Nobody told me that a key plot element in 12 Monkeys is time travel.
  5. Nobody told me that 12 Monkeys was directed by the fiendishly brilliant Terry Gilliam.
  6. Nobody told me that Brad Pitt, for the second time in his career, actually ACTS in 12 Monkeys.
  7. Nobody told me that 12 Monkeys would play Twister with my brain to a degree equaled only by The Matrix.
  8. Nobody told me that the basic plot of 12 Monkeys is Bruce Willis saves the world!!!
  9. Nobody told me that Bruce Willis is NAKED in 12 Monkeys ? more than once!
  10. Nobody told me that 12 Monkeys would instantly become one of my favorite Bruce movies.

Yeah, as a matter of fact I did just see 12 Monkeys for the very first time. Yeah, I’m pretty upset. For 13 years, I’ve been under the impression that 12 Monkeys was Brad Pitt portraying a patient in a psychiatric hospital. I knew Bruce Willis was in it, but for some reason had the idea that he was just a supporting character, a fellow patient. Yeah, dumb=me. People, he is The Star. The Man Who Saves The World. Why did no one explain this to me? My family and friends know that I would pretty much watch a colonic irrigation if it involved Bruce Willis. Multiple close-ups of his muscular buttocks would just be cream on the panties cupcake. And that list up there covers every damn one of my favorite movie elements. Well, except a xenomorph. Oh, and ZOMBIES.

Thirteen years I could have been enjoying this mind-blowing film. Damn. I suck.

I think you can make it up to yourself by purchasing that movie and watching 10 times in the next month.

    Problem solved!

  2. Bec Says:

Oh yes, your friends suck. I love 12 Monkeys… Ooo, the scene where Bruce goes into the Dept store near the beginning and Silent Night plays. Chills!

Doesn’t Bruce always save the world? Come on SJ, you had to see that coming. Actually, there’s 11 reason why your friends (and mine) suck…BECAUSE NONE OF THEM ARE BLOGGING RIGHT NOW!! (I’m screaming with love of course : )

i guess i better see it now, too. i’ve kind of grown to love the sci-fi movie. and like-mother-like-daughter, i too love bruce willis. i’m excited to see it now.

  5. Eden Says:

I didn’t like Brad Pitt until I saw him in this (in the theater). He blew my mind. Since then, I usually find his work disappointing b/c I know he’s capable of something like this.

Sizzle: I *did* purchase it, as part of a Bruce triple-feature set. So yay, I can watch it as often as I want!

Bec: Did you laugh when he said, “All I see is dead people”? Three years before The Sixth Sense!

John: No, he does not. Sometimes he is a very bad man (wonderfully!). Such as in Perfect Stranger and The Jackal.

What do you mean, no one’s blogging right now? I don’t get it.

Juli: It’s sooo good! You can borrow it … when you return my Resident Evil movies!

  7. Karl Says:

Wow, I think I’ve seriously neglected that movie. Haven’t seen it myself. Looks like Netflix is up for an update.

  8. SJ Says:

Eden: I have felt that way about Brad Pitt since I first saw Kalifornia. I don’t care for his pretty-boy roles. He’s at his best playing against type.

Karl: Let me know what you think of it!

  9. Dave2 Says:

This movie, like The Terminator, messed with my head for months after having seen it AND gave me an entirely new respect for Brad Pitt, who was brilliant in it.

  10. SJ Says:

Dave2: I remember either you or Kevin recommending 12 Monkeys to me years ago, when I first mentioned being a Bruceaholic. I said then that I had no interest in seeing it (because of my mistaken belief that it would be another One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest). Kicking myself now, I can tell ya!

  11. Avitable Says:

I love that movie. But I actually think he fails to save the world.

You know, I saw 12 Monkeys in the theater (because I was obsessed with how pretty Brad was, not because I thought he was a good actor) and loved it, but now I can hardly remember anything about it… And now that Mike has introduced me to the Die Hard movies (seriously, I only saw them last month for the first time) my love of Bruce Willis has been rekindled… I think I must rent 12 Monkeys soon…

  13. SJ Says:

Avitable: Emailed you … thanks for sharing your viewpoints!

Suze: You *just now* saw the Die Hard movies?!?! I’m sorry, I cannot respond. I need to go lie down.

Wait … first, I must recommend Hostage and Mercury Rising, two seriously underrated Bruce movies that are favorites of mine.

  14. kapgar Says:

My question is how could you not know this about 12 Monkeys?

kapgar’s last blog post..The devil’s in the house of the rising sun…

  15. SJ Says:

Kevin: That is exactly the question I’ve been asking myself! Like I said, I had the idea it was a movie about patients at a mental institution. And after One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, I swore off them things. Hate them almost as much as I hate prison movies. Incarceration freaks me the hell out.

  16. wafelenbak Says:

Don’t feel bad. I just saw Fight Club for the first time on Friday and would have seen it much sooner had I known it’s a V-for-Vendetta-style anti-corporation anarchy-fest. :(
