Dueling browsers
I hate Internet Explorer. I hate it so much that on my home computer I can’t even remember the last time I used it. My browser of choice is Firefox, and honestly, I can’t understand why anyone would not want to use it. Firefox is truly a thing of beauty and maximum efficiency. By comparison, Internet Explorer seems clunky and archaic.
At work, we have to use IE. I’m sure that’s true for most of you unless you work for a very enlightened employer. Most companies don’t have the adventurous spirit that, say, Google has. Plus, IE comes with every store-bought computer system that is not of a fruitish nature. I would venture to say that’s why the majority of computer-owners use it. Because it’s there.
Pseudotherapy readers, I’m pleased to say, are a more open-minded group. I was amazed and delighted to discover on my stats page that fully two-thirds of my readers use Firefox ? more than all other browsers including IE combined. Besides being sure proof my readers are more?tech-savvy than the?norm, this finding?brings the added benefit of confidence in my blog’s design and configuration. Because, you know, I created this website working in Firefox, and I maintain this website working in Firefox. If something about it looks hinky to IE (or Safari or Opera) users, I won’t even know about it unless someone calls it to my attention.
Unless, like today, I happen to look at Pseudotherapy while at work. That’s how I discovered that on?Saturday’s Wish post, none of the even-number numerals are showing up when viewed through IE. I have no clue why this is. Everything is copacetic in Firefox. It probably has something to do with the pictures being on the left side instead of the right, but?why it’s only screwed up for IE, I don’t know. Nor do I know how to correct it. Good thing my readers also know how to count, huh?
Let’s just blame it on WordPress, shall we?

The thing I love about Firefox too is that they have the option for an IE tab, just in case you need it like for some media players and other non-compatible issues. I watch my Netflix online movies in Firefox, but just on an IE tab!

I continue to blame IE. :-)

No. Blame it on IE. I do. Daily.
And, yes, I’m one of those that has to use IE at work. Not because my employer makes me. Heck, they even installed Firefox and Safari for Windows on my computer. The problem is that the full functionality of the content management system I inherited from my predecessor to maintain our Web site is only available in IE. I’ve tried with Firefox, but to no avail. The plug-ins needed don’t exist. Ticks me off royally. I want to use Firefox for the CMS so badly as IE, even v 7, crashes with alarming regularity.

I have to use IE at work too :( Maybe that is why the day seems to last so long?

Sizzle: Far too many people, that’s who. Like my whole family! Even my computer-god hubby STILL uses IE! I think he does it to keep me off his computer.
Hilly: I also like that feature, but the one I miss the most when I’m in IE is my customized Search pull-down menu in the toolbar, which allows me to switch around between my favorite reference sites. Google, Wikipedia, IMDB, Urban Dictionary, Amazon, etc. — all from one single Search box! Genius.
Dave2: And rightly so!
Kevin: That sucks! Have you thought about converting your website to a different CMS? I’ve heard many good things about Mambo, Joopla, Xoops and Drupal, all of which are Firefox-friendly. Some of them even use a plug-in system like Firefox does. Maybe there’s an Import feature to make the conversion quick and painless?
This chart in Wikipedia might help you choose.
Kim: That could very well be — OR it could be because you’re getting married in FOUR DAYS!!!

I must confess… I tried firefox and I didn’t like it. So I’m one of the dinosaurs that is still using IE.

Suze: Really? I’m curious, what did you not like about Firefox?

I use Firefox 99% of the time, but sometimes I have to use IE to change things in my template. I’ve tried refreshing the browser, it just doesn’t want to work. Another issue I have with FF is if I’ve got 3 tabs open for a long time (more than an hour) it starts to hog up all of my resources. As soon as I shut it down, everything is back to normal. These are minor irritations for me. I don’t like one thing about IE, and only use it when I’m forced into it.

Diana: Have you tried the plug-in (IE Tab) that lets you have an IE tab in Firefox? I used to use that for MySpace, and it worked great. I’ve never had a problem with Firefox hogging resources.

I use IE all the time. I have a banner on my blog that shows up on IE, but not on Firefox. Do you know how I can fix this?

Barb: The problem may lie in your coding. I emailed you about it. Let me know if my suggestion helps — and thanks for stopping by!
