Guess I’ll cancel the dance party
A funny thing happened on the way out of my office today: I fell down. HARD. Tripped over a box of files one of my crew had left sitting smack in the middle of the only path from my desk to the door. I didn’t expect it to be there, and didn’t see it because I was carrying a stack of files. On my way down I frantically grabbed at a chair arm, the desk and a stack of empty boxes in an attempt to break my fall. I guess it helped some, because my kneecap isn’t fractured. But my right knee is skinned, swollen the size of a melon and turning several shades of puce. Plus I managed to pull muscles in both legs, my abdomen, my right side and my left bicep. Seriously, I feel like I’ve been in a car accident.
Three hours hanging out in an industrial-medicine immediate-care clinic didn’t help. I slumped in a plastic chair and watched my knee inflate while a dozen other worker’s comp cases were treated. And the care was not worth waiting for, either. The doctor seemed to be following a script, actually backing up and repeating himself a few times. He said he was giving me “prescription-strength ibuprofen” but it’s just the standard 200 mg. WTF? Where’s my Vicodin? Percocet?! Morphine?!?!
I’m loving the ice packs right now. Got a big fat one draped over my big fat knee. I think I’ll head for the couch and an evening with Jake 2.0.

I feel your pain. Knees are nothing to jack around with. I hope you feel better soon. Remember-ice and elevate!

Did you surgically graft a watermelon to your knee?
Get better. Soon.
Ow.

Does this mean you get to skip a few days of work? Because that can be the the only good to come of this awful story! I hope you feel better soon

Ow!!
Holygirl’s right - knees are tricksy things. Baby yourself, don’t start walking too early, and ask for a cart or something for pushing those piles of files. Be careful about any back pains, too. You might not feel anything for months, then suddenly you’ll have real pains. (Just for comparison’s sake: my mom used to work in HR, and was always suspicious of people who injured their backs and then took six months off work on workman’s comp - but she’d see them in stores, walking around the neighborhood, and so forth. Then she had back surgery…and it took her the better part of a year to fully recover.)
This may be a long, slow process. Don’t push yourself. Take care!!!

Ugh! I’m so sorry that you jacked your knee like that. Worker’s Comp blows and ice is my friend too. Take care and get lots of rest!

Thanks for all the sympathy, everyone! I’ve spent a day at home icing and elevating, and the swelling is noticeably reduced. I plan to return to work tomorrow.
Foo!!! Thanks for stopping by! Are you also injured?
